After leaving school at the tender age of 15 he entered St.Martin`s College of Art which even today is London`s leading fashion school Peter O`Brien was never the most trendy designer there, he always designed pretty grown-up glamorous clothes in a very European style. So from working at Dior in Paris to Givenchy then Chloe he still had dreams of creating his own collection .......and at long last he's back and we are rightly benefiting from his talents.
He has just showcased his most recent work for Awear, he officially launched their eagerly anticipated and I must say most elegant 3rd collection. Only 120 guests were invited for 'Fashion & Cakes' at Fallon & Byrne on October the 15th.....how lovely is this idea for a fashion show?
From the collection you get the feeling he was trying to transport the audience back to an era of old Parisian Chic......and it worked.
The collection
Only 20 styles in total have been produced, with white shirts, cashmere knitwear, silk dresses, and coats. These plain descriptions do not do this floating breath of Parisian air justice, they speak for themselves in the photos, which u can find on the Awear website or indeed in store.
The items that stand out for me would be the black coat with waisted bustle detail and the nude silk ruffle blouse and navy pleated dress.
All I can say is......wow!!I love his attention to detail, with bows in the models hair, understated beautiful clothes with attention to detail.I think bows in girl’s hair are aaammmaazing, especially a Luella one I have my eye on!
Bow it up!
Speaking on the collection, Peter O'Brien said, "Style should be effortless, easy & feminine. That is what I try to achieve with my designs. My favourite piece from this collection would be the pea coat, a short fitted coat with side button detailing, really easy to wear and a style that suits any age or shape. The dress collection this year is also full of beautiful fabrics such as jersey, silk and wool...perfect for any occasion day or night and designed to make the wearer not only look her best but always feel her best".
This show has made it easy to see why O'Brien reigned supreme as one of the top couturiers in Paris. Fortunately, he has brought his brilliance home for us Irish Ladies to enjoy!
